Trumps Invisible Wall

Congress has given Trump a few billion dollars for his wall, They gave it reluctantly and not enough for an entire wall, but still, a few billion should be a start. But, does he really want to build it?

I contend that he doesn’t actually want to build it — at least not before the coming election. Those billions are real money, quite a bit of money. How much wall has he built? None. He has refurbished about 4 miles of the pieces of wall that already existed, though.

Making an assessment of his base, he thinks his most powerful appeal to these knuckle-draggers is a racist dog-whistle. He’s right. “Keep those brown people out so that they can’t steal those minimum-wage jobs you refuse to do.” “How do we keep them out? Build a wall.”

Okay, so he wants a wall. No. Without that issue to provide some of the motivation for them to goosestep down to the polling place, he’s worried that there could be enough of a drop-off in his base voting to swing a couple of states. The GOP has a significant advantage in the Electoral College and Trump triumphed in a few states by very narrow margins. Small losses in certain places could bring his defeat.

If some of the base feel they have gotten the bulk of what they wanted, they may feel less inclined to exert themselves. If he wins in 2020, he will see no reason to continue that particular quest.

This would not be the first time the rabid right has used such a stratagem. The Republican Party made an issue of overturning Roe v. Wade. That was a sexy issue for the “religious” right. It created an avalanche (avalanches all go downhill) to join and turn out for the GOP.

Despite having the numbers in Congress to make a serious stab at actually keeping that promise, they gave the gullible little more than excuses more and more lip service. Had they actually produced on those promises the enthusiasm would have waned.

However, the Tea Party came to town. Not as politically astute as the GOP, they took the promise to overturn Roe v. Wade to have been made seriously. They made efforts to bring it to pass. These people are a major part of Trump’s base. Fool me once. Oh, okay. Fool me some more.

These people have no actual, consistent principles. They are “God fearing Christians who think God needs them to fight his battles and be “pro-life” while supporting the death penalty. Abortion is bad but killing is alright, once they exit the womb. They claim God sent this thrice-wed breaker of vows and contracts, grabber of private parts, thief, liar, racist, person completely lacking in empathy to  implement God’s (the conservative) platform.

These are Cafeteria Christians. They are sufficiently simpleminded that Trump can understand them and manipulate them. That’s not much of a compliment.

If you found this educational, edifying, interesting or otherwise worth your time, this geezer would appreciate a little supplement to those Social Security checks, They forgot to factor in the cost of publishing a blog.

Many thanks,

Crawford Harris.

I was just looking for this information for a while. After six hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got it in your web site. I wonder what’s the lack of Google strategy that do not rank this type of informative web sites in top of the list. Normally the top sites are full of garbage.
