Gun Crazy

Gun CrazyLet’s call them what they actually are, not what they call themselves. They call themselves patriots but hate the government and most of their fellow Americans.

They claim allegiance to the Constitution but misread the 2nd Amendment and oppose much of the rest. They want to take back their country from the rest of us. They get upset when the Park Service objects to their use of our park land to graze their herds gratis. They are freeloaders, parasites.

Let’s call them ignorant, semi-literate racists who need a penis substitute to prove to themselves they are a man. Sadly, they have no concept of what constitutes a real man.

Fox bloviator Bill O’Reilly, during an interview with Stephen Colbert, claimed that the Founding Fathers gave us the 2nd Amendment so that citizens could provide themselves protection. Wrong. Not only is Bill a faux intellectual, he writes faux history books. Actually, they’re mostly ghostwritten. Whatever, that was not the reason the Founders included that amendment.

Gun Nut and DroneMany gun nuts say that the amendment was intended to provide citizens a means of protecting themselves from the government. Au coutraire. The Founders didn’t jeopardize their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor and then provide these ignorant clowns a means for destroying their labors. Notice the term, ‘a well regulated militia?’ That’s now called the National Guard.

The founders were terrified of the prospect of a standing army. The militia was their alternative for defending the government they created, not a way for a bunch of yo-yos to attack it. If only they could read. If only they had brains instead of guns.

The Congress and states, unless in conflict with federal laws, may enact laws to permit or deny gun ownership but no one has a constitutional right to possess a gun unless they are a member of the National Guard. Period. That should be simple enough for even those simpletons to grasp.

Some of you may have heard that women have a constitutional right to have an abortion. The sanctimonious pro-lifers, that wash their hands immediately following the end of the pregnancy and show their hypocrisy by their support of the death penalty, have passed at least a thousand state laws to restrict that constitutional right. Then they claim that the government cannot place any limits on their fictitious right to own even military-grade weapons. Of course, those weapons are needed for hunting and protection of their homes.

Big GunAs for hunters, they are too cowardly to engage many of their prey in a fair fight, mano a mano or animal man luchando. These buffoons attempt to justify hunting deer by saying they are actually helping by preventing overpopulation. Of course the overpopulation is the result of hunters killing off all of the natural predators of the deer. They are apparently remedying God’s lack of prescience.

Who’s Your Enemy?

Guns kill 10 times as many people each year in America as terrorists killed on 9-11, just that once. You want a gun to protect your family in your home? A gun in the home increases the likelihood of the gun death of a family member by more than 8 times. According to the Department of Justice, between 2005 and 2010 only 52% of robberies were committed by strangers. Watch out for family and friends.

In 2012 there were 259 justifiable homicides – self-defense out of more than 30,000 gun deaths. Over 80% of those gun deaths were caused by relatives or acquaintances. Mommas, don’t let your sons grow up to own guns. That year saw 232,000 guns stolen – 172,000 during home burglaries. Instead of protecting their homes they are supplying guns to the criminals. Ironic.

Twenty years ago the people of Australia decided they were tired of mass shootings. Their state and national governments got together and enacted reasonable gun laws. By some coincidence, there has not been a single mass shooting in the 20 years since. Meanwhile, we average about one per day. Who is our uncontrolled gun proliferation protecting?

As for the NRA, less than 5% of gun owners are members. Even among members, 72% support universal background checks and disagree with the organization on other positions by similar margins.

The US has about 4.4% of the world population and almost half of the guns. Hooray for us.
