Did someone revise the English dictionary while I wasn’t looking?
Reading and watching the news is disconcerting and disorienting.
Liz Cheney, a graduate of law school and self-proclaimed patriot, calls the Department of Justice the Department of Jihad. Why? Because seven attorneys in that department once represented terror suspects before the courts.
This law school graduate says that [...]

Supreme Stupidity
January 25th, 2010 · 4 Comments · Law, Politics
Despite what some may think, I was not around for the Dred Scott decision. That aside, I had comforted myself that the Supremes could not make a worse ruling than the one that gave us Bush the lesser.
I was wrong, horribly so.
We are now the only developed country in the world that allows corporations to [...]

Change. Change? What change? How about some meaningful change?
Three issues are at the top of the agenda. They share a commonality. They are healthcare, the economic crisis and the impending decision by the Supreme Court on Citizens United v. The Federal Election Commission.
The commonality they share is the usurpation of power by corporations and the [...]

Prostituting Justice

They are arguing the inarguable. The Regressives in Washington are arguing an issue that should have been settled during the Truman Administration.
Had we instituted a national healthcare system based on a single-payer, we would now be without a national debt. This would be true even if all the wasteful spending on the military and in [...]

Yes, We Have No Inflation

Okay. This hits close to home. It isn’t that hard of a hit, so far, but it is aimed at me. No. I’m not that special. It’s also aimed at you.
Did you get the word? There will be no adjustment for inflation on Social Security this year. There is also the expectation that there will [...]

He Should Know Better

President Obama should know better. I am certain that he does know better.
Did he forget that he was a professor of Constitutional Law? Did he forget the proper relationship of the Department of Justice to the Oval Office? The President has his own legal counsel just down the hallway in the West Wing. The DoJ [...]

I saw something in a tech newsletter the other day that caught my attention. I had no intention of blogging about it but it just keeps gnawing.
Some poor soul is trying to make a buck from the Internet. Isn’t everyone? The problem is that on his web site he had used a photograph of a [...]

Free Speech – In Remembrance
September 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Law, Politics
Sadly, I am old enough to remember the long ago, halcyon days when people were the only ones with the right of free speech. We reigned supreme, or thought we did.
Just how much is your speech worth these days? It used to be one of our most important rights. It was a part of the [...]

Here We Go Again

There is a ‘War on Drugs,’ street drugs, that is. There is another drug war. The later one is against American citizens.
Isn’t it wonderful that we have a war on drugs? While this eminently unsuccessful war against street drugs has embarrassed our country for decades, prescription drugs kill three times as many people.

Ego or Ignorance?
July 24th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Law
Time once again to enlarge the number of people angry at me. I know that quite a few in this group already enjoy the pleasure of directing anger my way but it is possible that a straggler or stray remains. I operate under the assumption that, the more, the merrier.
With only a year of law [...]
